Chronicler Bernadette de Costa Tampestad The Meiassis Dragon is the Dragonsspine newsletter, published once a month by the Office of the Chronicler This newsletter contains letters from the Baron and Baroness, and the Officers of the barony. It also contains various Arts and Sciences articles: past issues have included discussions of period foods, musical instruments, "This Day in History", heraldic display, and more. If you would like to submit articles and illustrations for publication in the Meiassis Dragon, please contact the Chronicler! Right now, less than half of the membership of Dragonsspine subscribes to our monthly newsletter. One of the reasons I regularly hear is, "I don't need the newsletter. I can find everything I need online." True. And not true. Yes, you can usually find the latest updates on events and regular happenings by visiting the the Dragonsspine website or monitoring the Yahoo! list. And the internet is the most amazing tool EVER for finding information on everything from garb to war gear. But what you will not find on the web are interviews with the Dragonsspine Officers and populace, articles and artwork by our local talents, or concise listings of events or officer contacts in one convenient packet that is not subject to the fickleness of hard drives, ISPs, or the local power grid. Normal subscription rate is $12.00 for 12 issues for the most in-deapth and educational piece of publication in the Kingdom. Once again Dragonsspine shows it is the Crown Jewel of the Outlands with its many contributions onto this Great Realm. Baronial Directory A Baronial Directory is available from the Chronicler, which contains the contact information and basic persona info for everyone who has elected to contribute. It is a valuable resource to help locate people, or to find out more about them. Please contact the Chronicler for more information. What Newsletters and Publications are available? There are several newsletters/publications that are available for subscription in our area. The three primary ones are: Tournaments Illuminated, Outlandish Herald and The Meiassis Dragon. Although these are the most common to our area, there are many more out there. Where are these? Tournaments Illuminated is the Society newsletter that contains a multitude of items relating to the SCA. Society Officers information, Arts and Sciences articles and certainly event announcements for major events across the Knowne World are all contained here. Tournaments Illuminated subscription information can be found here. The Outlandish Herald is the Kingdom newsletter that is specific to the Outlands. Letters from The Crown and Their Officers as well as information on upcoming events in the Kingdom and surrounding areas can always be found here. The Outlandish Herald is available to all sustaining members and can be subscribed to at time of membership purchase. For more on SCA membership, click here. The Meassis Dragon prides itself on being a combination of both. Not only does it contain missives from our Coronet and the Officers who assist in running the Barony; but many informative articles written typically by the local populace on a number of subjects. The Meassis is always looking for articles and it is a terrific spot to begin practicing documentation for other activities by providing an article.
