What are Arts and Sciences? There are many skills and crafts that can be learned through the SCA. As a newcomer, you could be overwhelmed and bewildered by the variety of things people work on, and especially by the skill of many of the people you meet. As an oldtimer, you can still be constantly amazed by the works of beauty created by an artisan's hand. If you do not know what you might be interested in, take some time just to observe others and to ask questions. You should not feel pressured to choose things to do as soon as you start going to meetings. There are guilds and special interest groups that meet in our area, attend some to get to know the people and see what they do. Perhaps you have a skill in the modern world or an interest that can be "translated" into the medieval world. That is what we refer to as the Arts and Sciences. The every day activities that many of us have now since lost. There are many, many things that a person can now learn if they want. If you would like a helping hand, contact our Arts and Sciences Minister. This person has taken a special interest in all of these activities and does many things to assists the artisans, promote their works and also to assist new people in contacting help groups for these activities.
