History History of Dragonsspine

The Incipient Shire of Les Jardin des Dieux, named for the Garden of the Gods Park, was founded in the modern city of Colorado Springs, Colorado in A.S. VIII (1973), an offshoot of the Barony of Caerthe and a branch of the Kingdom of Atenveldt. It was renamed Dragonsspine soon thereafter, and in A.S. X the Shire was granted official status.

Dragonsspine was raised to the status of a Barony in May of A.S. XIV (1978). Its founding Baroness was Caitlin Caslean an Bharraigh, and her tenure saw the creation of the Orders of the Gentle Dragon, the Scales of Dragonsspine, and the Dragon’s Blood. The premiers of these Orders were, respectively, Michael the Strange, Seamus Glas, and Phyllis of the White Marches. The first Vicar of Dragonsspine, Sir Michael the Strange, governed during the Baroness’s absence from July to January, A.S. XVIII. In June, A.S. XX (1985), Caitlin stepped down as the first Baroness of Dragonsspine.

Sir Olaf Bjornson ascended at that time as Vicar of Dragonsspine, becoming Baron in December, A.S. XX and ruling through the transition of the Outlands from Principality to Kingdom. During his tenure, el Collegio de los Tigres de las Montañas was founded at the Colorado College, and later renamed as the College of Tygre’s Keep. The Order of the Dragon’s Claw was formed by His Excellency, Sir Olaf, near the end of his tenure, and he was soon thereafter installed as its Premier member.

Master Demetrios ho Bibliophilos and the Honorable Lady Melissa of Winged Hills became Vicar and Vicaress of Dragonsspine in June, A.S. XXIV (1989), serving through October, when Master Lambert de Sur became the Baron of Dragonsspine.

In A.S. XXVI (1991), His Excellency Master Lambert, overseeing great expansion in our community, stepped down, and Their Majesties Irel and Tess decreed that Dragonsspine should become, which lasted two years, a Crown Barony, ruled directly by the King and Queen of the Outlands.

For two years the Crown of the Outlands served also as the Coronet of Dragonsspine, until Their Majesties, Leif II and Elisheva, appointed Mael Marden and Brilliana de Montreau as Baron and Baroness of Dragonsspine in May, A.S. XXVIII (1993). Their Excellencies served these lands together until September, A.S. XXXII (1997), when Mistress Brilliana stepped down. Master Mael Marden continued his tenure until the following June.

At Baronial Defender in June, A.S. XXXIII (1998), Giovanni di Sienna and Cainnleach Uiseir of Glendalough accepted the coronets of Dragonsspine, and maintained that office into 2001.

In April 2001, Baron Timothy O'Brien and Baroness Catriona nic Aiodh graciously picked up the reigns of Dragonsspine. Baroness Catriona stepped down in December 2001.

Timothy O'Brien held his final baronial court at Baron's War of A.S. XXXVIII (2003), and thereafter he stepped down. The Crown of the Outlands then invested Master Eric Edmundsson and Lady Birgitta Andersdotther as the current Baron and Baroness of Dragonsspine.
